English in tourism

Why do I have to learn English in this course?

You are starting new studies related to tourism and not surprisingly, one of the subjects is English! (with 5 hours weekly indeed!) You may ask yourself,' why English again? I thought I had finished with it in Bachillerato! I want to remind you that English is one of the most speaking languages around the world. It is spoken not only by English people but also by those travelling to different countries. French, Greek,or Russian people visiting Granada may not speak our language, because today they are here but tomorrow they may be visiting Poland. Do they have to learn all the languages of these countries they are visiting? They need to use one single language so they can communicate with the rest of the world. This language turns out to be English. After finishing your studies you will have to deal with people from different nationalities. How will you do this? Will be English then an useful and demanding tool?
